Become a Lexmark SmartSolution Developer

If you've been reading this blog for very long, you know about the great solutions we offer through our SmartSolution platform designed to help make life easier for SMB's. Now, we're giving you the chance to partner with us and contribute to our ever-expanding lineup of SmartSolutions with our newly launched Software Development Kit (SDK).

We're calling on all developers with a strong background in Adobe Flash technology to partner with us and design new Flash-based business solutions for our Web-connected All-In-One printers. Here is a video about the new SDK.

Starting today, we are accepting a limited number of highly qualified developers into the program. Think you have what it takes? Follow this link to our SmartSolutions Development page and answer a few questions about yourself to apply.

Beginning in Q1 of 2011, we'll be opening up the SDK to all interested developers and launching an e-commerce site to allow third party developers to sell their solutions to other Lexmark users. This new e-commerce site will offer a mix of free and paid solutions and should expand the number and type of solutions we can offer to customers. Be sure to check back here in Q1 for more details!

In addition to our SDK announcement, we are also announcing our newest SmartSolution, Google Analytics. This solution enables users to view and print reports and analysis of their Web traffic directly from the touchscreen of their All-In-One printer. This exciting new solution is expected to be available for download in the next couple weeks so be sure to check back for availability. For more information on how it works, take a look at this short video.

SmartSolutions Go Social

Today, I'm excited to announce that we've added Twitter and Facebook to our ever-growing lineup of SmartSolutions! These new solutions are designed to allow business users an easy and unobtrusive way to stay connected while at work.

The Twitter SmartSolution enables you to view real-time Tweets and message from people you follow on Twitter - directly on the touchscreen of your Lexmark Web-connected All-In-One printer. Twitter Search is designed for users without a Twitter account, and allows you to search for any subject or term and view what people are saying about it on Twitter. It’s perfect for people interested in social networking but not yet ready to sign up for an account.

Our new Facebook SmartSolution will allow you to view News Feeds, Wall Post, comments and pictures directly from the touchscreen of your All-In-One. You can also print pictures from your albums and feeds without even turning on your computer.

The two Twitter SmartSolutions are available now in our SmartSolution library and the new Facebook SmartSolution will be available for download in the next few weeks. For more information on these new solutions, click here for a quick video.

Lexmark's new social SmartSolutions coincide with the launch on Genesis, the latest printer in our award-winning lineup of touchscreen All-In-One inkjets. Genesis features a sleek new vertical design, breakthrough Flash Scan technology and built in two-sided printing. For more information on Genesis and a full list of it's features, please visit www.lexmark.com/genesis.

Calling All Artists!

On the heels of our updated suite of photo offerings, we're excited to announce a printer design contest with Lexmark and Photobucket.

We're calling all students, artists, schools, businesses and households to turn their printer into a work of art. Get started by using an old or new printer and create a fun and funky design. Tropical landscapes, cartoon characters and castles are all fair game. Here are a few examples of what we're thinking and a video explaining the contest.

To participate, submit a photo of your newly designed printer to this Photobucket album: http://gs120.photobucket.com/groups/o191/PXJ1OCD65L/. If you don't yet have a Photobucket account, sign-up is free and easy by visiting http://register.photobucket.com/.

The contest is open to aspiring artists in the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and Australia. Lexmark and Photobucket will also upload contest photos to our respective Facebook pages (http://www.facebook.com/LexmarkNews and http://www.facebook.com/photobucket) and will allow users to vote on their favorite images by tagging themselves. Submissions will be open from October 6 to November 12. Five lucky winners will be announced after November 12, and each will receive a new touchscreen all-in-one inkjet printer from Lexmark. Click here for the full list of official rules.

As we recently blogged, Lexmark's Photobucket SmartSolutions include Scan to Photobucket and Photobucket View & Print. With these offerings, users can access their Photobucket profile, easily upload existing photos and print images, all through Lexmark's Web-connected touchscreen.

So, feeling inspired? Grab your old printer, some art supplies and start designing. We're looking forward to seeing your printer creations!
